The Seven Churches (4)

Oct 9, 2019    Mitch Horton

This sermon continues our in-depth study of the Book of Revelation, focusing on Jesus’ messages to the churches of Sardis and Philadelphia.

The Church in Sardis is known as the Dead Church—outwardly alive but spiritually lifeless. Jesus warns them to wake up, strengthen what remains, and repent before it is too late (Revelation 3:1-6). This message is a wake-up call for believers today to examine our faith, ensure it is alive and active, and not fall into complacency.

The Church in Philadelphia, on the other hand, is the Faithful Church—one that endures, keeps God’s word, and does not deny His name. Unlike the other churches, Philadelphia receives no correction from Jesus, only encouragement and promises of reward (Revelation 3:7-13). This church reminds us of the power of perseverance and obedience in the face of challenges.

Through these letters, Jesus calls us to remain spiritually alert, faithful, and unwavering in our commitment to Him, especially as we see signs of His soon return. This message is crucial for the modern church as we navigate a world filled with compromise and opposition to biblical truth.
